The Church’s Role in the Civil Rights Movement

The role of the church in the civil rights movement was significant, as many churches and church leaders were at the forefront of advocating for racial equality and justice. They provided leadership, moral support, and organizational infrastructure for the movement. One example is the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), which was founded by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other church leaders to coordinate nonviolent protests and actions for civil rights.

Ephesians 4:3 – “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
