The Significance of Spiritual Gifts in Early Christianity

The history of Christian spiritual gifts can be traced back to the early church as described in the New Testament. In the book of 1 Corinthians, chapters 12-14, the apostle Paul discusses the different spiritual gifts given to believers by the Holy Spirit for the common good of the church. These gifts include wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. The early church recognized and utilized these gifts to edify and build up the body of Christ.
