The Christian Concept of Works of Mercy

The Christian understanding of the works of mercy is derived from the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly in the Gospel of Matthew where he says, “Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). These works of mercy include feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead. Christians are called to show compassion, kindness, and love to others through these acts of mercy as a reflection of their faith in Christ.
